Men’s shirt to mini skirt, one of the easiest and wearable DIY’s for an old men’s shirt.
Fabric can be expensive, and when you are just learning to sew you may not want to spend a lot of money on fabric until you master some skills and are sure the fabric will not go to waste. So below I am going to show you how I made a women’s basic mini skirt from a men’s old dress shirt that I picked up in a thrift shop for a couple of dollars.
To begin you will need the following things
Materials
- a men’s dress shirt in a print that you like (the bigger the shirt the better, for for XXL)
- 0.1m lightweight fusing (optional)
- 15-20cm Invisible zipper
- cotton thread (enough to also thread your overlocker)
- Mini skirt paper pattern (Use code word MENSSHIRTTOSKIRTDIY for a 25% discount)
Tools
- scissors
- pins
- sewing machine
- overlocker
- iron
Tips
- Before starting check that your pattern fits on the men’s shirt and you have enough room to cut between the seams of the garment
Step 1
Unpick all the seams and press the pieces flat so you have neat pieces to cut your skirt from, this is why its best to choose the biggest shirt you can find.
Step 2
Lay your pieces out with your patterns on top then carefully cut out the pieces.
In-depth step by step sewing instructions with photographs for this skirt can be found on another post here.
